打從專輯《Freaks》（1987）開始，Pulp 的實體歌詞紙頂上都會附這句「N.B. Please do not read these lyrics whilst listening to the record」。Jarvis Cocker 認為歌詞往往為了配合旋律而被刪改甚至扭曲，所以不必太在意。不過隨著 JC 年紀漸長，生活閱歷與腹裡的墨水越來越多，為配合旋律而修改歌詞反倒是更貼近原意。

《Different Class》（1995）的歌詞是流行音樂的一個里程碑，坊間一致都稱這張為「intelligent-pop」，只是除了這張外不知道還有哪一些專輯配得上這個雅號。 歌詞內容分成幾組，《Mis-Shapes》是一份宣言，《Common People》與《Disco 2000》是自傳加工，《Monday Morning》與《Bar Italia》是白領生活記事，《I Spy》、《Sorted For E’s and Wizz》與《Something Changed》是創作功課，以寫歌為主題。

值得留意的是另外幾首歌，歌詞主題巧妙重疊，像電影劇情的多個不同視角，同時是攝影鏡頭一樣，主觀與客觀、近距離與長鏡頭的切換，講述一個狹小的空間如何轉化成為日常走投無路的夢魘。在 <Live Bed Show>，Jarvis Cocker 化身一張價值 10 英鎊 的床，第一句是這樣拉開序幕的：

「She doesn’t have to go to work
But she doesn’t want to stay in bed
‘Cause it’s changed from something comfortable
To something else instead」

在 <F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.> 那裡，即將發生的事情是這樣的：

「……all the stuff they tell you about in the movies
But this isn’t chocolate boxes and roses
It’s dirtier than that
Like some small animal that only comes out at night」

事件的另外一個角度，就是 <Underwear>:

「I couldn’t stop it now, there’s no way to get out
He’s standing far too near
and how the hell did you get here?
Semi-naked in somebody else’s room」
